Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet Matte Review

Hey everyone, this week I am back with a review on the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet, which is basically a liquid lipstick (oh so very popular on the market at the moment 😉 ).

To start off, I just wanted to specify that, up to this moment, I only own one shade, because I wanted to experiment with it and see whether it was worth purchasing another one. My shade is a nude, and natural color, very similar to that of my lips (called Atomic Rose). I am sorry that I won’t be able to provide you with a swatch of all the shades from the line, but I still wanted to write a blog post on it, since I have had this liquid lipstick for a couple of months and I have used it quite a lot during this period. (also, please excuse the package, I didn’t manage to properly remove it from the lid, haha)

The first thing I noticed about it, was the texture of the product. It really is, as it says, velvety. It applies easily on the lips, and it is pigmented enough to not require a second layer. On the lips, it feels very silky, but I feel it can move around quite easily until it dries on your lips. Once you let it dry out, it’s staying power is quite good, but the feeling I get is quite peculiar (like a powder on my lips). The finish is supposed to be matte, but it preserves a shin even after you let it sit for a while.

In terms of cons, the only thing that I could think of, is that it can be very drying. Make sure your lips are hydrated before you apply this liquid lipstick, because it will dry them off. Then again, I do believe it is really hard to come across liquid lipsticks which don’t have the same exact effect. Also, I am not a big fan of the scent, and the taste it leaves on my lips. Have no idea how to describe it, maybe as being somewhat metallic (not sure if that makes sense or not). Either way, could do without it 😀

So there you have it, those were my opinions on this liquid lipstick. Would I buy another one? Sure, they are very good, considering the price, and the shade selection is quite nice as well. Of course, they may not the best ones on the market, but they are definitely a decent effort by a brand I, overall, am very fond of.
